Yes, you need the right kind of glasses for the solar eclipse, but there are TONS of counterfeit pairs of glasses hitting the market. How can you avoid being scammed? We've got you covered:

Of course, it's cool to see the moon cover the sun so only the sun's corona is visible. It is, however, very important that they use the proper glasses to view the eclipse. It's going to be a must-see.

Let us remind you: you should not look at the sun during the eclipse WITHOUT the proper protection for your eyes.

The American Astrological Society actually has a list of trusted vendors that sell eclipse glasses that will offer the proper eye protection for viewing. You can see the list here.

Naturally, the eclipse is such a huge event that there are people looking to take advantage of you by selling counterfeit eye protection.

How can you tell if the glasses you are buying are legitimate?

  • The lenses of fake glasses actually allow the penetration of light from such relatively faint sources.
  • With authentic glasses, the only thing you should see when looking at objects fainter than the sun is pitch blackness, experts say.
  • Perhaps the easiest way to make sure your glasses are real? All proper eyewear will be marked with an icon, "ISO 12312-2."

In fact, the American Astronomical Scoiety has a complete guide to the eclipse here.

By the way, I wonder if Bonnie Tyler's royalties will rise on August 21?
